Plans & Billing
How plans, subscriptions and the apps they cover work in SignalVault.
One subscription per organization
A subscription belongs to your organization and covers every app in it. Each plan allows a number of active apps and includes a number of requests a month. Requests above that are billed at the plan's rate per 1,000, in arrears, with the next monthly invoice; going over never stops your requests.
You pay for checked requests that reach your provider. That is an ai.request whose decision is
allow, warn or
redact, and whose provider call returned a response. Blocked requests,
requests over the rule-check rate limit (recorded unchecked), repeats of a
request_id and failed provider calls are not billed.
Every plan has the same per-minute rate limits, per app: 120 rule checks a minute through the events API, and 60 requests a minute to the proxy. A request over the rule-check limit is still recorded, without a check. See Rate limits if you expect bursts.

Free trial
Every new account starts with a free trial of 1,000 requests, for at least 14 days — no credit card required. The trial belongs to your organization, and its apps share it; an organization on trial holds up to 5 apps. Create an app, generate an API key, and start sending requests immediately.
For the first 14 days the trial runs whatever you send, up to 5,000 requests. From day 14 it ends at
1,000 requests, and on day 60 it ends whatever the count. Choosing a plan ends it at any time. Once it has
ended, new ai.request events
are refused with 429 until you subscribe. Responses, errors and tool
calls belonging to requests you already sent are still accepted, so an in-flight call is never left half
recorded.
Trial data is retained for 30 days.
Once the trial has ended, the API returns 429 with:
{"error": {"type": "trial_limit_exceeded", "code": "trial_limit_exceeded", "message": "Your SignalVault trial has ended. Choose a plan to continue: <upgrade_url>", "upgrade_url": "https://signalvault.io/account/billing"}}
Rate limiting also returns 429, but with a different body, where
error is the plain string "rate_limited" rather than an object
(see Rate limits). Check that
error is an object before reading
error.type.
A lapsed subscription or a paused app returns 402, not 429.
Choosing a plan
Plans are chosen on Account › Billing: your avatar, top right, then Billing. A plan on the Pricing page opens it too. A new subscription is paid through Stripe Checkout, and the plan applies as soon as Stripe confirms the payment.
Changing plans
- An upgrade applies at once. The difference for the rest of the billing period is charged immediately; if the card is declined or the payment needs confirming, the plan stays as it was and nothing is charged.
- A downgrade is scheduled for the end of the billing period, and you keep the current plan until then. A scheduled downgrade can be cancelled on Account › Billing before it applies.
Active and paused apps
A plan's app limit counts active apps. When a plan allows fewer apps than your organization has, you choose
which stay active, and the others are paused, never deleted. A paused app keeps its rules, API keys and
audit history; its requests are refused with 402
(app_paused) until it is active again. Retention follows the plan for every
app, paused ones included.
You can change which apps are active at any time on Account › Billing, within the plan's limit. A plan that fits every app reactivates the apps a plan limit paused; apps you paused yourself stay paused.
Cancellation
Cancel on Account › Billing. The subscription ends at the end of the current billing period, and your apps keep working until then. You can undo a pending cancellation at any time before the period ends.
Payment methods and invoices
Payments are handled by Stripe. Open Stripe on Account › Billing opens the Stripe Customer Portal, where you update the payment method and download invoices.
